Digit-al Dozen Does Brands; Day 4

Day 4 of Digit-al Dozen does Brands.  Here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of CND Oilslick (thumb), OPI This Gown Needs a Crown (index and ring), OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (middle) and Sinful Colors Cool Gray (pinky).  Topped all but the silver with SV.  I must say this is the first time I wore OPI This Gown Needs a Crown and I love it!  Love the sparkle/matte look, easy clean up and it's not gritty at all.  New fave go to silver!

Added assortment of images from various plates; MJ XXIII test (middle), MJ XXV (computer on index), FUN 6 (ring), MJ XXI (thumb) and QA 18 (pinky and index apples).  Stamping polishes used were black Konad black special polish and CND silver chrome.

Decided to add a few random dots using same base polishes and black and white Konad, as well as added an additional apple on index finger.

Finished mani by topping all fingers with SV except index.  I wanted to see if there was an obvious difference by top coating OPI This Gown Needs a Crown or not for future mani reference!

I must say this is the great thing about doing the Digit-al Dozen challenges; I doubt there is any other reason why I would put Steve Jobs face on my nails...but on the other hand, I'm glad that these type of stamping images exist as they give us so many different mani options and variety.

Smitten Polish To Banish the Winter Blah's Away!*

(No, that's not the polish name, but I think it would be a fantastic polish name, don't you agree? lol!)

How about some nice and bright nails on a terribly cold day?  At least it is in my area...seriously, will winter ever end here in Ontario?  I also know it's not only my area....it's cold in most regions in Canada and large parts of the US....and more!  I mean, we are used to snow but it seriously has been oh, so cold!  Enough!! On top of the cold, we also had heavy flurries go through this morning and there was even a 96 car pile up this morning on a major highway about an hour north of our area.....thank goodness recent reports indicate that everyone is OK.

Started with a base of Smitten Polish A Wedding Dress That Isn't Bright Turquoise.  This is 3 coats topped with HKGirl tc. I guess I spent more time oogling pictures and not reading enough about this polish as I thought it would be more opaque in two coats or otherwise, I would have put some undies on this beauty. But I didn't, so three coats and can still see VNL....not too obvious in real life but obvious in the bright lighting for pix. Still stunning though!  Beautiful shimmer!

I'm not a fan of of VNL on me as I've mentioned many times before, so was looking for a full nail image but with enough space through the stamped portion to let this stunner shine through.  Decided upon MoYou Artist Collection-04 stamped using white Konad special polish.

A closer look at MoYou Artist Collection-04.  (I used the cluster of images at the bottom right corner.)

Decided it needed a pop of colour; added dots using yellow Konad special polish (I purposely left one not dotted on each nail...it wasn't like I missed it!  Just for something a little different!)

Topped with SV to finish.

Hope you're having a great week...and staying warm.....thanks for looking!

Digit-al Dozen Does Vintage; Day 5

I'm late again with getting my post up...but better than never as the saying goes!  I did the vintage video game Pacman for the last day of the Digit-al Dozen Vintage challenge.

I couldn't find my regular go-to black base polish, FingerPaints Black Expressionism (that may have to do with the fact the DD's go-to mani colour lately is black and I have a sneaky suspicion it's up in her bedroom), so did a coat of Wet n Wild Ebony Hates Chris which was a horrible mess of a polish.  Found another black polish, KleanColor Black and added it on top, topped with SV to finish.

Added images from Handy 31 (middle and words on pinky) and Handy 32 (thumb, ring and pinky). Used Mundo de Unas stamping polishes; no. 4 (light blue), 30 (darker blue), 11 (yellow), 15 (pink) and 13 (orange).

Hand painted the orange ghost on the index finger using Mundo de Unas no. 13.

I've had these cool googly eyes for a while and finally had a chance to use them.  For applying them, my first instinct was to topcoat them like a rhinestone but thought that wouldn't work, so top coated the ring finger and set the eyes in the topcoat to hold them there.  Added random dots using same stamping colours and topped with SV as well.

Ms. Pacman and Pacman barely fit on my nails and the cute bow I added isn't that visible so I took a pix so it can be seen a little better.

I'm not sure how long these googly eyes will stay on my nails; my bet with the hubs is at least one of them will be gone by morning lol!

Here's the other ladies Day 5 fabulous vintage mani's.  This week, there has been a wide variety of vintage mani's...always so interesting to see everyone's interpretation of the theme and the ladies always nail it!

Hope you're having a fantastic weekend; thanks for looking!

Digit-al Dozen Does Vintage; Day 4

I'm a little behind of the Digit-al Dozen Does Vintage mani's; this is Day 4...not sure yet if a Day 5 mani will be coming or not!

Started with a base of OPI My Vampire is Buff; one coat.  One coat wasn't the best coverage; I only did one because I knew I was sponging on top so it would cover the thin spots.  But in fairness to the polish, didn't take a pix lol.  After the base dried, sponged on top using CND Gold Chrome as I was going for a vintage vibe.  Holy smokes...love the look of this!

Added assortment of flappers images using black Konad special polish.  All the images are from MoYou Back to the 20's-01 except the ring finger which is Handy 50.

The mani at this point is probably the most on theme to vintage but it was screaming boring to me....so decided to add a few rhinestones to jazz it up.

Topped with SV to finish.

Digit-al Dozen Does Vintage; Day 3

There's been a few of the Dozener's (as we were affectionately called by Bee Polished in her post here) do vintage roses for this weeks challenge, so I thought I would do my take on vintage roses too.  I have no freehand skill to speak of so of course turned to stamping to create the look; here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of one coat of American Apparel The Valley then topped with SV.  Unfortunately, this pix isn't the best for a few reasons; I was under some time restraints when I set down to do this mani and I allowed myself an hour start to finish before I left for work this morning.  One coat had pretty good coverage and I knew I'd be stamping quite a bit on top of it so left at once coat and topped with SV. I'm not entirely sure if it was because the polish was fairly thick, or the SV too thick, or not waiting enough time for the base to dry a little bit more before applying SV, but one way or another, my base kind of bunched up and slid down my nails a little creating thin spots in some areas and pools of polish at the sides.  You won't see a thumb in this pix because my attempt to remove a little random fibre resulted in nicking both the thumb on this hand and the middle on my right.  Because I was strapped for time, I just removed the area a bit with a brush, reapplied polish and SV again but it really isn't a good finger to show, especially for a polish swatch. Anyway, this polish is really so much nicer than my pix in my haste show!

I waited a few minutes, even putting my hands under a dryer, to get the polish and topcoat to dry before stamping.  Then added stripes using Apipila P.11 using white Konad special polish.

I did a very quick cleanup for this pix because I was keeping mind of the time; you can see my thumb isn't the best in this pix too. At this point, because the stripe didn't cover the misapplied polish on the thumb, I was hoping at least the next layer of stamping did!

Stamped using CICI & SISI 11 using Mundo de Unas stamping polishes in colours 20 and 37. I was glad to see that the roses covered the missed polish on the thumb!

Here's a closer look at CICI & SISI 11.

Digit-al Dozen Does Vintage; Day 1

It's back to Digit-al Dozen challenges for the next five days; this month's challenge is Vintage.  Vintage is anything 20 years of older, so I tried to think back to how life was back when I was a kid for some inspiration (which is more than 20 years...I guess I'm vintage, too!).  The first thing that came to mind was my parents funky wallpaper in the kitchen/dining room which was orange, yellow and green striped wallpaper and then my mother had cut out flowers from another wall paper in the same colour scheme and placed them all random on the striped wall paper.  I also remembered that my mom was into macrame at the time (macrame was popular back in the 70's) and did quite a few macrame towel holders and numerous owl hangers which where all over our house as well as my grandparents, etc.; which is where I took the inspiration for this mani.  This is what I came up with.

Started with a base of skittles, starting at index finger: American Apparel Army Jacket, Sally Hansen Butterscotch, Nubar On the Radar and nails inc. Hamstead Gardens, all two coats topped with SV.

I made a stamper decal using Infinity 07**, using the same colours.

Applied it to my thumb. (Seen I didn't do too good of a job on the decal on the eye but too late at this point.)

After cleanup and top coating with SV.

Used this owl image from Dashica Beauty using the recently released Infinity Nails plates; this is Infinity Nails 07. There are a lot of images on these Infinity Nails plates that can be turned into a stamper decal which is fantastic as it takes stamping to a whole other level IMHO...the designs are great for more traditional stamping as well!

Added more owls using SdP 53 using black Konad special polish.

My first thought was to just add random dots, but I thought I do that fairly often, why not do things a little different, so I dotted the owls using the same polishes and then added white eye balls.

Added black dots for eyes and touched up the stamper decal a little at the tips.

Topped with SV to finish.

I wore this mani for a day and just before I took it off, I thought it would be funky cool matted, so topped with two coats of OPI Matte Top coat.

I did some googling to see if I could find something close to my parents striped wallpaper or the flowers, but couldn't but this was the funky 70's wallpaper that I did find. (If I had have planned this post better, I probably could have found some pix of the funky wallpaper in family albums!)
