Digit-al Dozen Does Negative Space; Day 5

I made it to day 5 for negative space challenge week!  What a challenge!  I went from not being into negative space too much to not minding them with the right design at the end as I do like how these turned out!  I started to look at my nail art plates in a different light now and you might actually see some more negative space nails on the blog every now and then!  I really liked how day 5 nails turned out; I was looking through my Bundle Monster plates for images to use for another Olympics mani and came across BM-XL209 and thought one of the images on it might make an interesting negative space mani.  I did some stamper decals and while they aren't perfect as my eyes were going all bug eyed when I was trying to fill in the voids as well as keep track of the lines around the bubbles, but think they turned out pretty cool looking anyway!  I think a great mani would be doing stamper decals like here was but placing them over a contrasting base polish so have filed this in the back of my mind for a future mani.  Anyway, here's what I came up with for day 5!

Started by making stamper decals using an image from Bundle Monster BM-XL209 and FunkyFingers Gesso as the stamping polish then filled in with acrylic paints.

BM-XL209

Applied the stamper decals to the nail.

Added a coat of Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC.

I did my right hand a little different; did two coats of Too Fancy Lake Como and stamped using same image.

I decided I wanted a little bit more umph to the mani so added a coat of Northern Lights Hologram Topcoat in silver as I couldn't find China Glaze Fairy Dust.

Even though I was happy how these turned out and think there are some of the more interesting nails I've done lately, I'm still not a fan of the natural nails underneath (which are stained in my case making them look worse) and the tip lines are yet a different colour underneath is another annoyance; it just throws me off when doing these negative space nails.  I'll have to carefully pick images or consider void placements in the future but am glad overall that I did make it through the challenge!

Digit-al Dozen Does Negative Space; Day 4

I'm not a fan of this mani at all; let's just say it started as a great idea in my mind but it went downhill from there!  While I wanted to do a replacement mani with the hopes it turned out better, I didn't have enough time and by default, I have to use this for a challenge mani. But this mani might hold the record for being the one that was on my nails the shortest amount of time because it was off before the final coat of QD TC dried!

For a little colour interest, I did a sponged gradient using CND Electric Orange, Bicycle Yellow and Raspberry Parfait on accent, then stamped over it using an image from MoYou Tropical Collection 14, as well as the other fingers using another image from the same plate.

MoYou Tropical Collection-14

This is MoYou Tropical Collection-13; I was going to use the same image for the pinky as it is smaller but decided against it.

Added a coat of Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC to finish.

I removed this mani 2 seconds after snapping the last picture; I can tolerate a lot of my nails but was not a fan of this at all!!! I didn't have time to do a replacement mani but I have always said I would share the good with the bad and this is definitely one of them!

Here's the other ladies Day 4 negative space nails, which I'm sure are wayyyy better than these!

I hope Day 5 will redeem me; thanks for looking!

Digit-al Dozen Does Negative Space; Day 3

Here's lace nails for day 3 of Digit-al Dozen does negative space challenge!  I actually didn't mind these nails until I seen the polish drag on the index.....then I'm like, nope, nope, nope, don't want to share them but the worst part is that I didn't even see the drag until I uploaded the pix!  This has happened more than once to me lately which makes me think I had better move forward that eye exam that I've been putting off because I don't see the drag until I see the macro.  I also don't know what is happening lately with all this polish drag; I've never had so many issues in the last two months or so since I was a nail newbie!  I can only surmise that its weather related (too hot and humid when I'm doing my nails), application error or brush issue (which I've had in the but noticed it and just switched out the brushes), or if I maybe got a weird batch of top coat.  I'm pretty sure it is the weather making drying of the polish really slow but I haven't changed the amount of time between applciation and top coating but I am getting highly annoyed with it so I hope it ends soon!

Started with my regular base of Duri Rejuv as it is negative space week!  Stamped using FunkyFingers Dark Knight using an image from ZZ Lace 1.

Added a coat of Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC.

Added some french tips using guides.

Digit-al Dozen Does Negative Space; Day 2

I've done four of the five negative space mani's for this weeks Digit-al Dozen challenge this week and this by far is my favourite of the bunch!  Of the ones to post yet, one is just OK and the last one I hate with a capital H which is very rare for me as I can tolerate almost anything on my nails but I detest it so much, I'm not even sure if it will make it to the blog!  Anyway, this is what I came up with for Day 2 of negative space week!

Started by making a stamper decal using an image from ZZ 06.  (I made several decals and only used one; I don't think the one below was the actual one placed on my nails, fyi.)

Applied two coats of Duri Taming of the Shrew to all fingers except accent, which had the stamper decal applied.

Topped everything off with Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC.

ZZ 06

While I actually liked the simplicity of the nails as they were, I did end up stamping them with another image on the plate using FunkyFingers Dark Knight.

Topped them off with a final coat of Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC.

Digit-al Dozen Does Negative Space; Day 1!

It's Digit-al Dozen challenge week; this month's theme is negative space!  I'm not a fan of negative space, but have to admit, I was pretty happy how my negative space mani's turned out (for the most part) and will have to keep this style in mind for some variation every now and then!

We have had super hot weather lately and I have to admit that I've ate more than my share of ice cream and popsicles in this heat!  So when I seen a cute ice cream image from Star Nails 52, I thought it would be good for this month's negative space challenge; here's what I came up with!

Started by making stamper decals using assortment of Mdu stamping polishes using an image from Star Nails 52 then filling in the cones using acrylic paints.

Star Nails 52

I realized when I was applying them that no way the ice cream cone would fit on my pinky so had to come up with something different to make it look OK, but did place three of the five stamper decals I had made.

Keeping with the negative space theme, I stamped some dots using Chez Divers 007 using MdU stamping polishes.

Added a coat of Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC to finish.

Negative Space Bird Cage

I thought it was Digit-al Dozen week with our challenge of negative space this month.  Negative space mani's are probably my least favourite type of nails; I think I've done one ever before. However, the challenge doesn't start until next week and I jumped the gun and shared this on IG already so I'm sharing now.  Now I'll have to do six negative space manis over the course of the next couple weeks! Uggg! Here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of Flower Nail Polish Make My Daylily with accent of just a clear base only.

Applied the stamper decal I had made with an image from Star Nails 57 to accent and topped it (blobbed it a bit too much) with Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC(which is why the bottom of the case smeared a bit).

Did a gradient on all fingers but accent using Flower Nail Polish Thistle or That, Make My Daylily and Bluebell of the Ball.  I had bought these at Walmart a couple weeks ago on clearance.

Topped with Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC before stamping.

Star Nails 57

Stamped using an assortment of images from ZZ Vintage 1 using Funky Fingers Dark Knight.

Thanks for looking...and look for five more negative space mani's next week!

Digit-al Dozen Does Nail Heroes; Day 5

Today's mani is doing double duty; it's Day 5 of nail heroes week for Digit-al Dozen as well as 40 Great Nail Art Ideas with the challenge of red; I had added prompt of negative space. I used a stamping plate from Messy Mansion as my tribute to my last nail hero for the week, Julia the owner of Messy Mansion.  Not for her plates because Messy Mansion was included in yesterday's nail heroes, but for the new methods that Julia has brought to our stamped nails being the stamper decal and lead lighting.  Both of these new methods have made more interesting, creative and more awesome nails than we had ever seen so thank you Julia for thinking outside the box and coming up with these techniques!  I really wanted to do a lead lighting or stamper decal mani but because I was combining themes and especially when I had red and negative space, looking at the plates I would have used for them, I just couldn't come up with anything so ended up using a Messy Mansion plate; here's what I came up with!

Now, don't go laughing too hard, but what I used for the stamping polish and the base polish are both Girly Bits Fire Engine Red!  I initially stamped the two accent nails using Giry Bits Fire Engine Red using an image from Messy Mansion MM29.  I then gathered red cremes to try to figure out which one would match it the closest then thought why not just use the stamping polish as the base and then I know it will match exactly?!! So that's what I did!  One coat was good coverage but I did two because my application wasn't the best on the first one so needed to do a second to get closer to the cuticles, edges, etc.  No top coat is shown on the pix below.

Messy Mansion MM29

Topped all with Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC.  This was how I had initially planned to leave my nails but I couldn't stand the look of the free edge on the tips of the two accent nails being different than the rest of the nails.  Note to self; negative space is not the look for you; never do it again lol! Actually, I might not have minded this look so much if my nails weren't stained so badly; they actually weren't that bad until I had really bad staining earlier in the week from a green Dance Legend polish :(

Decided to do french tip using tape and same Girly Bits Fire Engine Red stamping polish.  While I liked how this looked, decided I wanted a little bit more!

Added a few studs for interest.

Decided to add them to all fingers although I don't like this look nearly as much as without no studs or just on the solid ones.

Here's the other Digit-al Dozen Day 5 nail hero mani's!
