Digit-al Dozen; Skittles, Day 5

Today is the last day of the Digit-al Dozen Skittles challenge for this month. The ladies in the group have simply outdid themselves this week....the mani's have been fantastic....so creative and we all have come up with such different takes on the theme.......well, I think that happens every challenge! This my Day 5 mani.

Started with a base coat of skittles, starting at thumb, used Duri Taming of the Shrew, L'Oreal Hyde Park, China Glaze Happy Go Lucky, NYX White, and Essie Avenue Maintain, all two coats, topped with SV.

Stamped using Fun charcoal stamping polish using FUN 7.

I had made a stamper decal and filled it in with a combination of Konad special polishes and acrylic paints.

After a layer of clear, placed the stamper decal on my finger.

Um, Houston, we have a problem!  I tried to use acetone to remove the overage on the stamping decal but it wasn't very successful, so I ended up trimming the decal down with scissors as best I could around the shape of my nail.  This was a little tricky considering the decal was still on my nail, but eventually, I got it to work, I suppose!  After touching up the decal a bit with some polish (see the white at the bottom in the pix above?  I had a huge, honking decal and could have placed it down further on the nail to avoid this, but of course, that's not where I fit it on my nail, so filled in a little using polishes as can be seen below), topped with SV to finish.

Digit-al Dozen; Skittles, Day 4

Another fall mani for Day 4 of the Digit-al Dozen skittle challenge.

Started with a base of skittles.  Polishes used starting at the thumb are GOSH Blissfully, Nubar On the Radar, Sally Hansen CSM Butterscotch, Essence Do You Speak Love?, and GOSH Lazy Green; all two coats, no topcoat.

Stamped with China Glaze GR8 using LS-19 on all fingers, except accent.  Accent is LS-20, using Essence Do You Speak Love?, Nubar On the Radar and Sally Hansen Insta-dri Lickety-Split Lime as stamping polishes.

Topped with SV to finish.

Here's a fall pix I took around the same time of doing my nails.  I just thought it was interesting how the leaves fell on the steps!

Digit-al Dozen; Skittles, Day 3

Here's Day 3 of the Digit-al Dozen skittle mani's; this time I decided to have some fun with textured polishes!

Started with a base of skittles; polish used on the thumb is OPI Kiss Me at Midnight, middle finger is Milani Yellow Mark, and pinky is China Glaze Of Coarse, all two coats, no topcoat.  For the index and ring finger, I didn't have textured polish in the colours I was looking for.  I remembered reading somewhere in the blogesphere (I can't remember which blog now, but will gladly give credit if I come across it again; I seem to think it's a fellow Digit-al Dozen lady.  **Edited Oct 23 2013; the blog was Bee Polished; the post is here if you want to check it out!) about using a textured polish and then topping it with a regular polish, so this is what I did for these two fingers.  I used two coats of OPI Solitaire on each finger, then did a coat of Duri Taming of the Shrew on the index finger and then Essie Navigate Her on the ring then waited for all to dry.

Stamped using black Konad special polish using FUN 11. Unfortunately, the Elmo finger wrinkled a little because it wasn't dry enough, but I just touched it up a bit with more red polish.

Added a little character to their faces using a dotting tool using red, white and black Konad special polishes.

That's it!  I didn't topcoat this mani as I wanted the roughness of the texture polishes.

Stamped using black Konad special polish using LS-20.

Stamped an accent of China Glaze GR8.

Topped with SV to finish.

Digit-al Dozen; Skittles, Day 1

This is a mani that I used for a Mundo de Unas contest with the theme Retro Pyshedelic that I entered not too long ago; it has a base of skittles which is appropriate for the Digit-al Dozen skittles challenge this month so I'd thought I'd share it now!

Started with a base of skittles; polishes used starting at the thumb are Illamasqua Noble, Revlon Alluring Amber, China Glaze Happy Go Lucky, Sinful Colors Exotic Green and Color Club Pink Flame; all two coats, topped with SV.

Stamped using Handy 2 (index), Handy 42 (thumb), Handy 1 (pinky) and Handy 44 (middle) using Mundo de Unas stamping polishes 5, 8, 11 and 13 and black Konad special polish.

Here's a closer look at the plates.

Added a few random flowers from Handy 1 using the same stamping polishes.

Topped with SV to finish.

If you'd like to check out all the entries for the Mundo de Unas contest on FB, please go here.  The FB page also has a list of those who had won; and my mani won one of the honourable mentions!

Thanksgiving Mani (Fail!)

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadian nail fanatics!  This is the mani I did for the holiday; wasn't entirely thrilled with how it turned out; it seemed so much better when I had it planned in my head...but thank goodness it's only polish and a bit of remover and a new mani will be on my nails in no time!

Started with a base of two coats of Tough as Nails Lacquer Shut Your Sweet Potato Pie Hole; topped with SV.

Bottle shot.  Another polish that is the epitome of fall!  I bought this last year when I went bat crazy for fall and Halloween polishes but was only able to wear a few of them....only so many mani's you can do for fall and Halloween before the season passes as these aren't colours I'd typically wear!

Stamped using FUN charcoal stamping polish using BM-H13 (thumb, middle and pinky) and MJ XVI (on ring and index). Just a note that if you go to use this turkey image, the image works best if scraped with a light hand and side to side.

Topped with SV.

Here's a closer look at the plates used.

BM-H13

MJ XVI

I'm not sure why I wasn't into this....I think it's mainly because the image on the middle finger is covering too much of the base, which I wanted to see more of; I wish I had have stamped it closer to the tips so more would be seen like on the thumb.  Oh well.....and can SOMEONE tell me why there is no image plate that has Happy Thanksgiving on it?  Calling all image plate makers....we need this for next year, please and thank you!  I know this was one of my wishes for plates almost from when I got into stamping and had asked for words like this to be on plates...Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday, Happy Easter, Happy Valentine's Day, Happy Canada Day, etc etc....they are essential to a theme mani gal like me!  While some have since been done, there are still some (like Happy Thanksgiving) that are needed! (end rant! lol!)

Pumpkins

I've been on a little fall mani kick lately; this is one of four mani's I wore this week.  I shared one my last post and a couple more will be posted next week.  Anyway, when I did this mani, I was thinking what would be a cool base to highlight some pumpkin stamps being the inspiration for the mani; this is what I came up with.

Started with a base of two coats of SpaRitual Kindness.  This is an absolutely perfect fall polish!  Kindness dries on the matte side as you can see below but I'm sure would be stunning top coated and glossy! I thought it was great with the pumpkins in mind because it kinda reminds me of pumpkin pie...if pumpkin pie had gold shimmer in it!

Layered with a coat of Pretty & Polished Phoenix then topped with SV.

Stamped a bunch of pumpkins using assortment of plates using FUN charcoal stamping polish; MJ VI (thumb), BM224 (middle), BM-H11 (pinky and index), and Chez Halloween 001 (ring).

Topped with SV to finish.

Here's a look at the some of the plates used.
