Digit-al Dozen Does Vintage; Day 1

It's back to Digit-al Dozen challenges for the next five days; this month's challenge is Vintage.  Vintage is anything 20 years of older, so I tried to think back to how life was back when I was a kid for some inspiration (which is more than 20 years...I guess I'm vintage, too!).  The first thing that came to mind was my parents funky wallpaper in the kitchen/dining room which was orange, yellow and green striped wallpaper and then my mother had cut out flowers from another wall paper in the same colour scheme and placed them all random on the striped wall paper.  I also remembered that my mom was into macrame at the time (macrame was popular back in the 70's) and did quite a few macrame towel holders and numerous owl hangers which where all over our house as well as my grandparents, etc.; which is where I took the inspiration for this mani.  This is what I came up with.

Started with a base of skittles, starting at index finger: American Apparel Army Jacket, Sally Hansen Butterscotch, Nubar On the Radar and nails inc. Hamstead Gardens, all two coats topped with SV.

I made a stamper decal using Infinity 07**, using the same colours.

Applied it to my thumb. (Seen I didn't do too good of a job on the decal on the eye but too late at this point.)

After cleanup and top coating with SV.

Used this owl image from Dashica Beauty using the recently released Infinity Nails plates; this is Infinity Nails 07. There are a lot of images on these Infinity Nails plates that can be turned into a stamper decal which is fantastic as it takes stamping to a whole other level IMHO...the designs are great for more traditional stamping as well!

Added more owls using SdP 53 using black Konad special polish.

My first thought was to just add random dots, but I thought I do that fairly often, why not do things a little different, so I dotted the owls using the same polishes and then added white eye balls.

Added black dots for eyes and touched up the stamper decal a little at the tips.

Topped with SV to finish.

I wore this mani for a day and just before I took it off, I thought it would be funky cool matted, so topped with two coats of OPI Matte Top coat.

I did some googling to see if I could find something close to my parents striped wallpaper or the flowers, but couldn't but this was the funky 70's wallpaper that I did find. (If I had have planned this post better, I probably could have found some pix of the funky wallpaper in family albums!)

Macrame owls from Wikipedia.

Here's the other ladies fabulous Day 1 mani's!

Antique Looking Valentine's Day Mani

Another Valentine's Day mani; this one's isn't overly traditional nor overly funky.... antique looking to me...and I love how it turned out!

Started with a base of one coat of Chanel Taboo, no topcoat.  While one coat had pretty good coverage IRL, the pix don't do it justice and I should have done two for ....I'm just not a fan of the very sheer coverage at the tips and two would have been a better choice.

Layered with one coat of Shimmer Lorene**, no topcoat.

These pix have topcoat.

Stamped using CND gold chrome using Big SdP A.

Topped with SV to finish.  I think this mani looks pretty antique-y looking...which will be a good fit for the start of next weeks Digit-al Dozen theme; the posts will start on Monday.

While this pix isn't in focus, I like how all the sparklies show through it!

Still using Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter A-Peel and it's still working like a charm!

This picture is during the day in overcast skies; it high lights the glitter/stamping contrast best although not the best for my skin tone lol!

Hope you're having a great weekend....and thanks for looking!

Funky Valentine's Day Nails

This is another one of those nontraditional themed mani's I like to do every so often; a Valentine's Day mani that's a little on the different side!

I wanted a mani with bright, bold colours and all random.  After applying one coat of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, sponged using an assortment of colours.  Polishes used were China Glaze Happy Go Lucky (yellow), Sally Hansen Insta-dri Heat Flash (orange), China Glaze Starboard (green), Icing Fifi (pink) and Essie Avenue Maintain (blue).  The sponging didn't turn out as bold and bright as I was looking for but didn't mind it never the less.

Stamped using FUN black stamping polish using Cheeky Jumbo 6, Happy Holidays.

This is a lot of black to clean up...which is why I used FUN stamping polish for the mani versus the harder to clean up Konad.  This is a pix after clean up!

Topped with SV to finish.

I did skittles in the same colours on my other hand but no sponging...I actually really liked how it turned out too!  It had more of the bright, boldness I was looking for...but wasn't too thrilled with my recent nail break on the middle finger and the subsequent shortening of the rest a bit to somewhat match...it's growing out slowly, but surely!  Yes, I walk around with mismatching nails and nail lengths....all the time in fact!

Have a fantastic weekend....thanks for looking!

Quick Hearts for Valentine's

Here's a quick and easy Valentine's Day mani I did recently.

Started with a base of two coats of Jade Diamond Scarlet, no topcoat. Glass fleck is one of my favourite finishes (they just seem to glow, not to mention that I find generally they have easy cleanup!) and this beauty doesn't disappoint.

Stamped using white Konad special polish using VL009 on all fingers except accent; accent is VL001.

Topped with SV to finish.  Topcoat dulled the stamping ever so slightly but hardly noticeable IRL.

While this was just sheer luck, I love the placement of the little itty bitty heart at the cuticle on the middle finger....I couldn't have planned it better if I had have tried lol!

Hope you're having a great week...and thanks for looking!

World Cancer Day Nails!

Today is World Cancer Day...a day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment.  Here's the link to the official World Cancer Day page which has explains why the day was created; and a link to the Canadian Cancer Society's page on this years awareness focus which is dispelling cancer myths.  The site is also an excellent source of many other topics and information relating to cancer. Here's my World Cancer Day mani.

Started with a base of two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, top coated with SV (no pix as have shown before).

Stamped a total of 28 times (!) by isolating a small ribbon from the full size image on BM321 using assortment of polishes:  Konad apple greed, red and dark red, Mundo de Unas stamping polishes in 11, 16 and 22, FUN stamping polishes in Bubble Blue and Cotton Candy, Sally Hansen Insta-dri in Man-go Team!, Sally Hansen Butterscotch and Barry M Gray.

The ribbon colours represent the following cancers according to this site:  lavender (all cancers), gold (childhood cancers), pink (breast cancer), gray (brain cancer), yellow (bone/bladder cancer), burgundy (multiple myeloma), lime green (lymphoma), brown (colon cancer), blue (prostrate cancer) and red (blood cancer).

Decided to add random dots for filler.  I chose lavender as it's the universal cancer ribbon colour and pink for breast cancer awareness which has special meaning to my family.

Topped with SV to finish.

Super Bowl Mani-Broncos vs. Seahawks

Did you watch the Super Bowl yesterday?  I didn't see too much of it...watched the national anthem (still trying to figure out about opera at the Super Bowl...just didn't seem to fit!), then watched the game until around half time...and a little after half time, but that's about it.  Congrats to the Seahawks fans on your teams win!  I don't really follow football but I did do a mani for the game just because I love to do themed mani's...and it's the only other time I could use some of the images on these plates! Here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, topped with SV (no pix as have shown before).  Stamped using A05 ("seahawk"), MJ XXIV original (Bronco, and NFL symbol), MJ XVIII (Go Team and ref) and CH35 (helmet and footfall), using assortment of Mundo de Unas special polishes, Konad black special polish and Kiko 323.  Mundo de Unas 14, which I've used before and stamps navy, stamped more purple this time...it really was meant to be navy!).

A closer look at MJ XXIV....lots of team logo's on it...I only wish they were all available on a plate!

Added assortment of dots in both teams colours.

Topped with SV to finish.

Congrats to Kacy S. who responded about the last giveaway over the weekend and is now the winner...the raffleopter has been updated for anyone who is following!  The Digit-al Dozen is also working on verifying the last mega giveaway so again, please remember to check your emails on a regular basis!  Lastly, I do have another sponsored giveaway planned which should be up by the end of the week!

Black Roses for Valentines

I always try to think a little out of the box for themed mani's; in fact, this year, I think I've worn more non-traditional type of Valentine's Day nails than traditional.  Here's one of a few that I did not too long ago.

Started with a base of two coats of Revlon Rich, no topcoat.  This is a drug store brand that I've reached for a few times now...I think I need to get a back up if I happen to come across another bottle!

Stamped using MoYou Pro Collection 07 XL using black FUN stamping polish.

A closer look at MoYou Pro Collection-07 XL.

Topped with HK Girl to finish.

I've sent out another email to another winner for the recent giveaway; please remember to check your messages!

Hope you're having a good weekend; thanks for looking!
