Digit-al Dozen Does Decades; Day 1

It's Digit-al Dozen time again!  This month's theme is decades.  Girl Power reigned supreme in the late 90's with the popularity of the Spice Girls; this is my tribute to the 1990's with a Spice Girl mani.  Here's what I came up with!

This is a rare appearance of my right hand but it looks much better than my left right now; but it will be shown here too lol.   I had a tear in one nail just at the tip of the fingertip and although I had been mending it, it began to snag on everything so I cut my nails back a few weeks ago.  My nails grow pretty quick and I expected they'd be a good length by now but the middle nails has broke twice since I cut them as well as the index. They are still on the short side but hopefully they will be a more uniform length in a week or so.

Anyway, started with an assortment of Glam Polishes; starting at thumb and going clockwise, they are Pink Ladies, We Go Together, Hopelessly Devoted, Grease is the Word and Fawn; all two coats, no topcoat.  I thought my base colour choices were clever; brights were popular in the 80's but the polish collection shown (except Fawn) is from Grease, which was in the 70's...so I've pretty much covered three decades in this mani lol!  Pretty clever if I do say so myself lol!

My right hand doesn't look too bad though which is unusual because it's usually hang nail city!

Stamped using FUN black stamping polish using MoYou Roxy Collection-07.  I thought I didn't do too bad of a job lining up on my right hand considering had to use the less dominate left to place.  It's the beauty of using a squishy stamper that you can just plate the nail and press into the stamper; so much easier for placement.

Here's same images on my left hand. I used the image shrinking technique using a squishy stamper to make the images smaller as otherwise, these images would never have fit on my small and short nails.  A couple of the images were slightly distorted but all in all, not too bad.  This is such a great trick when you have images too large to fit on your nails otherwise.

Close up of MoYou Roxy-07. Can you name them all?  I think I know them all but one girl who has the Princess Leia hair...I think it's Christine Aguilera but not 100%!

Added dots as filler using same base polishes.

Topped using KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I had my son take a few comparison shots of the stamping sizes; they aren't the best but hopefully you can see the image size difference.  The size difference may not seem terribly different in these pix, but on the nails, it is very obvious.  It really was the difference on fitting the image on my left hand or not; it simply wouldn't have happened if the images couldn't have been shrunk in size.

Here's the other ladies decade mani's!

Purple Sweater Nails!

This is a mani I did way back in February, just hadn't gotten around to sharing now.  I remember at the time I was sooo happy that the stamping was lined up and centred fairly well....only because of using a squishy stamper, which really helps in lining up images I find!  Here's what I came up with!

Started with a base coat of L.A. Girl 3D Effects, Purple Effect, two coats and topped with SV.

Stamped using Infinity 36.

A closer look at Infinity 36**.   I used the image top row centre but turned it sideways.

It fit all my nails fully except the thumb which was just a little short.

Added a little stamping at the cuticle of the thumb to fill in the gap.

Topped with SV to finish.

Stamped with white Konad special polish using LS-20.

Topped with SV to finish.

LeadLight Flowers

Doing leadlight designs has quickly become one of my favourite styles of stamping.  I've done a few now but haven't gotten around to sharing them....and want to do more but I find they are a little bit more time consuming then just a base and quick stamping so haven't done nearly as many as I want.  I have gone through my plate stash and set aside designs for when time does permit...and have pre-ordered a bunch new Infinity plates that I also think will be awesome for this style.  Anyway, here's a design I came up with not too long ago!

Started with a base of two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (no pix).  Stamped using black FUN stamping polish using Big SdP J. (A very similar if not exact image is also on Infinity 42).

When I was browsing Shoppers Drug Mart one day, I discovered some very sheer Quo by Orly polishes that were very sheer but had glitter....so have the added bonus of being able to use them for this technique but have glitter!  Fantastic!  You don't know how excited I was when this was discovered! I used an assortment of polishes for this; some are in the first pix below and others as it progressed:  Quo by Orly Mega Canary, Mega Red, Mega Fuchsia, Mega Orange, Zoya Paloma, Zoya Ivanka and Zoya Gilda.

Filled in with more polishes.

Top coated with SV to finish.

If you don't have access to the Quo by Orly polishes, there's a good likelihood that Orly has these same shades but named differently as I have found this frequently with Quo by Orly and Orly polishes.

When I was checking my polish stash over the weekend to see what other polishes I might already have that could be used, I came across the Revlon Scented Fizz polishes that are very sheer and have glitter too.  I believe they will work well for this technique too!

Trust Fund Beauty Sex Tape

There's another brand new Canadian indie polish maker!  Trust Fund Beauty opened in February 2014 and I was fortunate to receive polishes for review; this is Trust Fund Beauty Sex Tape!

Started with two coats of Trust Fund Sex Tape with an accent of one coat of FingerPaints Black Expressionism.  Trust Fund Sex Tape is a rich, hot pink creme that was very opaque; I probably could have gotten away with one coat if I had have been more careful with my application.  The formula consistency was great and I had no problems with the brush.

Trust Fund Beauty is the creation of Samara Granofsky; the polishes are 5-free. They have a variety of tongue in cheek collections like Prenup, Heiress and Scandal featuring an assortment of finishes. When I was browsing the site, I found this page that has an interview with Samara that I thought was a pretty interesting read and explains the thoughts behind the brand.  I really liked that they have a sample trio that sells for $10 for the times when you can't just make up your mind which colours to buy!

As I was putting Sex Tape on my nails, I knew I wanted to do mani to go along with the edgy vibe of the polish brand which is why there is the black accent nail. Added KB Shimmer U Rock My Heart on top of accent finger.  I heart this look so much! While I top coated the accent finger once the glitter was added, the rest of the fingers are topcoat free and still have lots of shine!

But was going for a edgy vibe,so once the base polish was dry, stamped using JR-14 using FUN black stamping polish.

JR-14

Topped with SV to finish.  This is when I had a d'uh moment in that it hardly makes sense to use a 5 free product and then use SV to topcoat! But it is my topcoat of choice 99% of the time simply because it is so fast drying.

Despite the oversight, I am pleased to report that even though I did this, there was no shrinking or any weird reaction like I know SV has with sometimes other 5 free products.

Trust Fund Beauty also has a monthly subscription box service; there are details on the box service on their site; polishes are $15 for 17 ml; they also have 5 ml trio packs for $10.  New products will being offered; in fact, just yesterday a new matte collection was added!

Have a great weekend and thanks for looking!
