Digit-al Dozen Does Fandom; Day 1

Welcome back to Digit-al Dozen week!  This month's challenge is Fandom!  I had no idea what Fandom meant but with a little google help, discovered that it means:  the state or condition of being a fan of someone or something. According to the Urban Dictionary, it means:  The community that surrounds a tv show/movie/book etc. Fanfiction writers, artists, poets, and cosplayers are all members of that fandom. Fandoms often consist of message boards, livejournal communities, and people.

I had to really put on my thinking cap for this challenge and thought what message boards and communities do I belong to.  Well, they are all stamping related, of course!  Anything to do with stamping, count me in! So today's mani is stamping related. Wait, all my mani's are stamping related.  Well, you can see for yourself what I meant by stamping related!

Started with a base of one coat of Funky Fingers Dark Knight.  Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped using assortment of Mundo de Unas polishes using assortment of plates, just used the etched plate maker name instead of an image!

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

This reminded me of graffiti on a wall and in hindsight, I wish I had have stamped some bricks on first, but next time!

Here's the other ladies Day 1 Fandom mani's!

Coral is Perfect for Summer!

**sent for review

We finally have some warmer weather and beautiful, sunny days....let's hope it lasts!!  One of my favourite colours to wear during the summer; especially when it is sunny out, is coral.  I find myself reaching for it often!  This is a mani I did last month and was going to share for the Digit-al Dozen geometric theme, but thought it wasn't geometric enough so am sharing it now!

Started with a base of two coats of Julie G Miami Beach.

Added a very thin coat of Shimmer Polish Alice. **

Shimmer Polish Alice has a variety of shapes and sizes of glitter, including holographic as you can see from the pix below, in a clear base.  Perfect for adding some glitter interest to any base!  I added one very thin coat of Shimmer Alice and it had a good amount of glitter; of course, several coats would increase the glitter, but I just wanted a little interest on top of the base.

Stamped using Funky Fingers Gesso using an image from MJ XLII.  (Great image to allow base polishes to be visible underneath!)

Added accent image using UberChic 1-03.

Took some of Shimmer Alice and added it to the flower centre.

Top coated with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

Teal and Cream

I wish I had something catchy or interesting to say about this, but don't!  This is simply what I came up with when I was trying to find stamping polishes that matched bases that I had picked out.  Sometimes a mani is just as simple as that!

Started with a base of alternating colours; OPI Taylor's Gift (three coats) and OPI My Vampire is Buff (two coats).  Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped using Mundo 61 (Figi) and 43 (Papyrus) using MJ XXXI.

Top coated with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

A closer look at MJ XXXI.  If you are a lover of floral patterns for stamping, this is a must have plate!

Brrrrr! It's Cold Out!

It has been chilllllyyyy here for the last 24 hours; cold enough to have to have the fireplace on last night to warm up the room a bit! Good thing I have a sweater mani to wear!

Started with a base of Glam Lisbeth, two coats.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped using Infinity 86 with an accent of Infinity 36 using Funky Fingers Gesso.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

Infinity 86.

Hopefully we will have warmer weather soon!

Funky French!

I think only other stampers can appreciate how happy I was with how this turned out!  Thank you squishy stamper!  So helpful for placing images because you can press your nails into the image and line it up better...for me anyway!

Started with a base of two coats each of Chaoes & Crocodiles Spun Sugar Magic with an accent of Butter London Marrow.

I thought Marrow needed a little umph, so added Chaoes & Crocodiles My Favorite Color is Unicorn (or My Favourite Colour is Unicorn if Canadian lol)

Stamped using Funky Fingers Gesso with an image from Big SdP B.

Added a few pearls.

Decided that one just wasn't enough; so added a second.  Not sure if these were the best embellishments to use but didn't mind them.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.  Didn't really like the look of these but thought otherwise the pearls would fall off in no time.

The holo was singing in the sun!

And Cindy even stamped decently!

Have a great weekend; thanks for looking!

Fixing My Mistake!

On a lazy, hot Sunday afternoon a couple weekends ago, I decided to do some bright nails to go along with the bright, sunny day.

I had picked up this blue polish in the discount bin at the local drug store the day before.  I was wanting a nice bright blue creme.  Unfortunately, I didn't recognize it from one of the textures that L'Oreal had released last year and didn't realize it was a texture until I started to apply it.  This is two coats of L'Oreal Blue My Mind with an accent of Orly Fresh.

After discovering my blunder, I searched through my stash for something I could layer on top to lessen the texture.  Layered two coats of Anna Sui 012 on top, which eliminated the texture nicely as well as added some layering interest.

Flakies look so much better in the shade...or matted!

Added flowers using an image from MJ XLV using Funky Fingers Gesso.

Dotted the centres of the flowers using the same base polishes, then top coated with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I was really happy how these turned out, even though I was less than happy initially with the textured polish instead of the creme.  But I think it worked out OK in the end!

Girly Bits Visit from 2014

Today is Memorial Day in the US; I thought it might be a good time to share this star mani that I was wearing from last spring when a few of us nail fanatics met up and went to the Girly Bits headquarters and made polish!

Because we were going to the Girly Bits headquarters, of course, I felt it fitting that I had to wear a Girly Bits polish!  I did two coats of Girly Bits Roger That as the base.

As a tribute to the ladies I was meeting up with the from the US, I did stars for the stamping.  Used Lily Anna 14 on all fingers except accent which is Lily Anna 07.  I didn't make note of the stamping polish but I'm guessing it was white Konad.

Lily Anna 07

Here's a few pix from the visit at Girly Bits.  This is where all the magic happens! Before I'm inundated with messages, no, I wasn't able to open the book and take pix of all the recipes!

A glitter rainbow!

The work area.

The creations!

The hand pose which is mandatory for all nail gatherings!  Starting at 12 o'clock and going clockwise, this is the hands of traceyloveslacquer, Frazzle and Aniploish, me,  honeybee_nails, nailxchange (who isn't actively blogging and I can't access her blog but I found her FB account although it's not current, sorry!)

We had a lot of fun that day!  Hopefully we can plan another get together for 2015!
