40 Great Nail Art Ideas Does Winter

Well, it's Friday and that means 40 Great Nail Art Ideas.  This weeks theme is winter; nothing screams winter more than snow which is what I used as the inspiration for this mani; here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of KBShimmer I'd Rather Be With Blue by Cosmetic Sanctuary with accent of KBShimmer Snow Much Fun.  While I started with the two coats for the glitter, I did find it patchy plus the glitter placement was sometimes sparse in some areas and clumpy in others, so eventually I added blobs here and there until there was full coverage and glitter interest where I felt it was needed.

Did a sponged gradient with KBShimmer Soul Deep, Sky Jinks and I'd Rather Be With Blue.

Top coated before stamping with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped using FunkyFingers Gesso using assortment of image plates; Sugar Bubbles SBS 08 (middle and pinky plus random flakes on thumb), Bunny Nails HD-F (words on thumb) and UberChic UC Christmas-01 on ring and index.

Top coated with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

Here's the rest of the ladies awesome winter mani's!

Have a great weekend; thanks for looking!

Stamped Multicoloured Stripes

If you've seen the past mani's I've done using nail vinyls, you''ll know what my use of them is still a work in progress to say the least!.  I love the look of them though especially with multicolours, so thought I might be able to stamp on some lines using image plates better and faster.  To be honest, I but can't say for sure I accomplished either one of those things with these nails!   This is what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of Polish II Come Later.  This pix has no topcoat.  I found this polish at my local beauty supply for $2 and you can bet I picked up all my favourite colours!  They are a little on the thin side for application but I prefer that; but they build well and cleanup is a breeze!

Top coated.

For the stamping, used the lines from BP-L009 but turned them sideways to stamp.  I used three Mundo de Unas polishes, #1, #2 and #33.

These straight lines can be troublesome with squishy stampers; I didn't do too bad except on the middle finger.  Because I did these nails before work one morning, I decided I could live with them but if I had time, I would have removed the middle nail stamping and stamped again.

Top coated to finish.  I should add that while I found these easier to do then nail vinyls, they still aren't perfect, and on a hardness scale from 1 to 10, these would be an 11. There's just so much that can go wrong; applying the polish so that it intermingles onto another line, scraping is straight, picking it up then transferring it onto the nail straight AND  with the lines straight, not all over the place.  That being said, I might be giving nail vinyls another go lol!

I do like how these turned out thought; the imperfections aren't that noticeable in real life.

Unorthodox Christmas Sweater Nails

These nails might win the Ugly Sweater Nails contest for being so ugly, but I love them!  I always try to think a little outside the box for at least one mani when doing seasonal or theme mani's and I think this is outside the box if nothing else!  I think they are really cool anyway!

Started with a base of three coats of KBShimmer Sugar Plum Faerie; this is shown without top coat.  This is a polish that really needs a coat of top coat for best results.

Added a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Picking up the green glitter in the polish, stamped with Mundo de Unas 52 using images from Bundle Monster BM-S215 (middle) Ejiubas EJB-03 (thumb) and MoYou Festive Collection-06 (index, ring and pinky).  Two things of note; this particular Mdu is a skin stainer so do cleanup on each finger immediately after stamping; even though I did this, I still have hues of green on a couple fingers.  Also, because the polish is so thick, it is best to stamp, scrap then wait about 5 seconds before picking up the image to avoid fine spider lines.  I forgot to do this on the thumb which was the first finger I stamped but quickly remembered once I did the thumb so the rest of the nails aren't that bad lol.  It's not noticeable IRL but in macro, very obvious!

Bundle Monster BM-S215.

Ejiubas EJB-03.  These plate are actually etched on both sides in case you are wondering why you are seeing so many images.  They are sold on Amazon here.

Finished with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

I didn't want top bother with a lot of glitter removal even though I did a coat of glitter peel to help with the glitter removal so did my right hand slightly different.  This is OPI My Current Crush stamped using same plates.  Even though not traditional colours, I think they work well together; really liked how this turned out too!

40 Great Nail Art Ideas Does Glitter/Flakies + Leopard

This weeks theme for 40 Great Nail Art Idea challenge is glitter/flakies; I had the added prompt of leopard. I've never seen a glitter/flakie leopard but love a challenge!  Here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of OPI My Vampire is Buff, topped with one coat of Elevation Polish Aguja St. Exupery; this is no top coat.

This is topped with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.  The flakies are faint but they are there!

For leopard, did an accent nail with a face (of what I hope is a) leopard using an image from ZZ Animal Print 3, with leopard print from Infinity 60 using Funky Fingers Dark Knight.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.  This neutral look is my favourite!

I wanted to go for a more realistic look, so decided to do some brush work; added blotches using China Glaze Desert Sun.

Did the face on the thumb simply by adding dots here and there with tip of brush.

Added in a few brushstrokes using China Glaze Kalahari Kiss to the four fingers and more dots on the face.  also painted eye on the thumb.

Finished with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Here's the other ladies glitter or flakies manis; there's lots of variety as we all have different prompts!

For The Birds!

I picked up a few of the newly released L'Oreal polishes (in Canada anyway) at Shoppers Drug Mart last weekend. They look a lot like the Holiday 2015 Mad for Plaid collex that some bloggers from the US have posted, but the displays I seen online call the one I used Classic Rock and mine says Classic Check; I even went back to SDM before posting this but the display has no special name, just new colours. Unfortunately, I can't find any info online to verify they are the same polishes, just named differently, but I do know it has happened before so wouldn't be surprised.

I must have been a little ill because the first colour that caught my eye was a fugly, L'Oreal Classic Check and had the immediate urge to wear it right away.  Unfortunately, it was a little too much fugly for me so I had to do some work on it but I do like how it ended up; this is what I came up with!

Start with a base of two coats of L'Oreal Classic Check.  Shown with no top coat.  I was expecting it to be a little bit more yellow then drab beige/greige/whatever this is; all I know is its not my colour and I needed to do something else with it lol!

Decided to do a sponged gradient using another polish that I had picked up at SDM at the same time; LACC 1969.  While I cannot say for sure, I get the feeling that SDM is discontinuing this line.  I've seen them for sale at a variety of locations anywhere from $7 to $9.69, down from their regular of $12.99 and the sale tags go to past the new year.  Again, I have no verification of this but seen the same thing happen with Nails Inc. so am speculating here.

While this was slightly better, it still needed a bit more.  Added gold flakies using OPI The Man With the Golden Gun.  While I usually brush it on, this time I decided to sponge it; the end result was way more flakies then I usually use and while I was initially ticked at myself for putting on too many flakies, when it all fiished, I think this was the right amount.  Sometimes, things just work out in the end.

Stamped using an image from Emily de Molly EDM19 using Funky Fingers Dark Knight.

40 Great Nail Art Ideas Does Cartoons & Comics

I'm super late for late Friday's 40 Great Nail Art Ideas post.  This time, I didn't even have my nails done and was just late in posting; I didn't do these nails until last night.  Unfortunately, I had a death in the family and was out of town a great part of last week, then tied up with work on the day that I did make it into work. So nails had to take a back seat which is why I had little online presence last week on any of my media accounts (other than Thanksgiving but I did those nails a month ago and had the post already scheduled for the holiday).  So sorry for being MIA but unfortunately, had no control over the situation.  If you've been here for a while, you will know I have ebbs and flows on postings; sometimes I can do every day or every other day and then sometimes I can be a week or longer between posts.  So thanks if you are still here!

This is what I came up with for the theme of Cartoons & Comics!

Started with a base of skittles; starting at thumb, polishes used are Zoya Robyn, CND Bicycle Yellow, CND Green Scene, OPI Red, and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  All two coats, topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Made a few stamper decals that are as cute as Swee'Pea!

Applied the stamper decals (not very well either).  Plates used were ZZ Cartoon 1 (Popeye and Swee'Pea), FUN 3 (Olive Oyl) and FUN 11 (Brutus).

ZZ Cartoon 1

Stamped pinky using MoYou Sailor Collection -02 using MdU 7.

Added white dots using Funky Fingers Gesso and top coated to finish.

Here's the other ladies Cartoon and Comics mani's!
