Back to School Time!!!

Today is the first day of school for kids in my area!  I know, all parents are singing, "It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!!"  I can't believe that it's the last year of school for my youngest child! How time has flied! Only 10 more months of having to get up early and then I've done my parental duty of seeing all three kids off to school for the last 18 or so years! Wahooo!!!!   This is what I came up with for back to school nails!

Started with a base of skittles; polishes used starting at thumb and going clockwise are Nars Ethno Run Left, Nicole by OPI Hit the Lights, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, Zoya Tilda and Zoya Robyn.  All are two coats except the NOPI which was thin and streaky and needed a third for coverage and Zoya Tilda which was good for coverage but I nicked the tip and just filled it, then added another coat to level.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

I had made a bunch of stamper decals using images from plates and acrylic paints.

Applied stamper decals.  Images are from Moyra-16 Memories16 (thumb), MJ JR-2 (index), Creative Shop 12 (middle), Cheeky Top of the Class Jumbo 4 (ring) and FAB UR NAILS FUN-WON (pinky).

Creative Shop 12

 Applied top coat.

Decided to add a few more images; added words on middle from Infinity Nails 76, then added 'learn' from MJ XL II on ring and 'play' from FAB UR NAILS FUN-WON on ring.  Added a few dots on the dress on the pinky.

Decided to add a few dots for filler using same colours of base.

Top coated with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I hope your morning was uneventful if it was your kids first day back!  Ours went well; got up on time, no hiccups and the bus even picked up DS2 on time....last year, the bus forgot him the first day of school so we are already ahead of the game!

Back to School!

I know a lot of parents are singing, "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" today, but I'm not one of them! I only have one child in school now and he's pretty self sufficient all summer so going back to school today meant I couldn't sleep in like I have for all of July and August!  To top it off, DS2's bus never did show up this morning after waiting for over an hour so I had to drive him to school so not a good start to the school year! Hopefully there's no issue tomorrow!

I did these back to school nails last night!

Started with a base of skittles; starting at thumb and going clockwise:  Zoya Arizona, Essie Vibrant Vibes, Essie Sittin' Pretty (when I seen the name of this polish, immediately to mind was the Big Bang Theory episode with Penny and her hemorrhoid commercial when she says, "Sittin' Pretty" lol!), OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and Essie I'm Addicted.

Made a few stamper decals for the theme using acrylic paints.

Applied the stamper decals and stamped ring; images are from:  Moyra Stamping Plate 16-Memories (thumb), MJ XVIII (apple on middle), MJ LV (teacher on ring), MJ L (pencil on pinky and student on index) and Cheeky Jumbo 4- Top of the Class (bus on middle).

Moyra Stamping Plate 16 - Memories

MJ LV

The entire decal from Moyra 16-Memories didn't fit on my thumb so I cut a couple of the images that I didn't use and added to the ring finger; then topped everything off with Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC.

Added a few dots for filler and interest.

Then topped everything off with Girly Bits What A Rush QD TC to finish.

Digit-al Dozen Does Childhood; Day 4

It was no surprise to me when I got to thinking about childhood for this weeks Digit-al Dozen theme, that a lot of my memories involved my grandparents.  I was fortunate that I lived just a few doors away from both sets of my grandparents up until I was a teen; one lived 4 houses to the right, the other 5 houses to the left, so was at their houses fairly often.  I spent a lot of time at both grandparents houses but moreso with my Grandpa and Nannie (versus Grandpa and Grandma; we were taught to call them different names so everyone knew which grandparents we were talking about lol). I would help them do things around their house; weeding their vegetable garden and other yard work.  I also many nights sleeping over even though our house was just a few doors away.  Most days after school, I would head to their house first right off the bus and sit with my Grandpa who had just arrived home from work around the same time.  We'd watch Hogan's Heroes and All in the Family, having some little snack while Nannie was making dinner. When it was ready, I'd head home.  It was my Nannie that taught me to bake; I can remember standing on a chair at the kitchen counter just doing the stirring while she added the ingredients when I was very little.  As I got older, I made the items by myself while she supervised while sitting at the kitchen table.  We'd play cards while the baking was in the oven.  I learned a lot of valuable baking tips; how to double a recipe, or half it, read the instructions from a cookbook, etc.  Not only did I learn how to bake, but also to cook and can; I can remember helping to make homemade pickles, beets, applesauce, canning fruit plus jams of all sorts. I still love to bake after all these years and usually bake at least one thing a week now.  So today's mani features baking with my Nannie, one of my fondest childhood memories.

For bases, polishes used starting with thumb and going clockwise are OPI My Vampire is Buff with a thin coat of Cirque French Roast, Lynnderella Ruby Red Ruby (3 coats), Pahlish Bespoke The Wish of a Golden Fish, Barry M Blue Plum Gelly with a coat of Streetwear FX Flash, and OPI My Vampire is Buff.

I wanted to make pies on all fingers (they are pecan, cherry, pumpkin and blueberry if its not obvious!) but all I could think of for the fifth pie was lemon meringue and thought however would I do that, so decided to add a cupcake.  The pie crusts are using an image from MoYou Back to the 50's-03 mixing Mundo de Unas 43 and 57 together. The cupcake is Dash 20 using red Konad special polish and Barry M Blue Plum jelly. Added nuts for the pecan pie on the thumb with Mundo de Unas 22 using Cheeky Home Sweet Home Jumbo Plate 7.  For the pumpkin pie, I swirled the polish around when it got gummy, to mimic how the filling settles into the crust.

MoYou Back to the 50's-03

For the pumpkin pie nail on the middle, I matted the polish using OPI matte, added a few darker swirls using Cirque French Roast then added the pie crust by hand painting using Mundo de Unas 43.  Top coated the ring, index and pinky with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.  I was kinda ticked that my nails were too small for the full effect of the pie crust to show on the index and middle finger but not much you can do about that.

Santa's Getting Ready at the North Pole!

Christmas is just a few short days away; here are Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves getting ready for the big day at the North Pole!

For some reason, I can't find any notes on this; I'm surmising they got deleted by accident at some point during the year as it's from last year but didn't have time to post it.  So I'll try to mention items if I recognize them. Started with a base of Sinful Cool Gray; probably two coats, no topcoat.

Sponged on white and blue for background interest.

I had premade a few stamping decals.....

....using images from Cheeky Jumbo 6 Happy Holidays (index and pinky), MJXVIII (ring), QA19 (thumb).  I think the Santa is a SdP plate but will have to double check. No idea what polishes were used.

I wasn't sure I'd have space for the North Pole sign but decided to add it to the index; the image is from MoYou Festive Collection-01.

Added a few random seasonal dots and top coated to finish (not sure if this pix is before or after topcoat though!)

Top coated to finish.

Digit-al Dozen Does Floral; Day 1

Welcome back to Digit-al Dozen challenge week!  This weeks theme is floral.  I have a feeling that there is going to be a lot of amazing floral mani's this week so please make sure to check out all the ladies posts via the Inlinkz below.

Here's what I came up with for Day 1; a floral mani that I did about six months ago after I had seen on another blog that OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest stamps so well.

Started with a base of two coats of Indigo Bananas Electric Unicorns, no topcoat. Such a stunning polish!

Stamped using OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest using an image from Cheeky Jumbo 10 Happy Nails.

Top coated to finish.  The topcoat really brings out the beauty in the stamping from OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest....love it!

Here's the link to Love. Varnish, Chocolate that I first seen OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest used for stamping....gorgeous!  I use stamping polishes so often I forget sometimes that there are regular polishes that stamp so well!

Graduating Class of 2014!

Yes, you are at the right blog!  It's been 4 years that I started my blog (almost to the day; man, how time flies?) and I've had the same rose, basic background all this time.  To be honest, I'm not one of these people who had the need to update my format as my blog has always simply been a format to share my manis and help those find the plates, etc and it didn't really matter to me what it looked like.  But it was ticking me off that some of the pix I wanted to share had some of my fingers partially cut off (as I don't crop or edit pix or do much anything other than upload the pix to blogger) so I wanted to change formats so that my fingers weren't cut off in the pix; that is all!  If I could figure out easily how to expand the margin on the existing format, I would have just expanded them.  And may still do that but for now, this format will do!  (Side note:  I had a change of heart and wanted to change back to the old style and just change the margins but applied one and then couldn't change it back as I see the old format isn't an option and now I wanted the old format back but can't! Oh well!) Not sure how long this one will stay but it's the closest there is to the old format yet not cutting off the pix.  Who knows, now that I seen how easy it is to change, I might do some more, but for now, this is it!

Tonight is my son's graduation; these are the nails I did for the occasion!

I did these quickly before I went to work and didn't have a whole lot of time so only took the end pix versus the pix of as I go along as most posts have.  But here's what I did to create the mani:  Started with a base of two coats OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, top coated.  Stamped main images on fingers using black FUN stamping polish using images from Infinity 35 (thumb), MJ XIX (index), BM H23 (middle), and SdP 102 (pinky).   The middle finger was stamped using Cheeky Jumbo 4 Top of the Class using Mundo de Unas stamping polishes in 13 and 30.  Did a little fill in of open areas on thumb, ring and pinky using L'Oreal Jolly Lolly, Miss Pixie and OPI I'm Never Amberrassed.

Added random stars using yellow Konad and Mundo de Unas 13 from SdP 69.  Lastly, hand painted in 2014 on ring using red Konad special polish.  Top coated to finish.
