Digit-al Dozen Does Childhood; Day 2

When I was 8 or 9, I took an interest in stamp collecting.  My dad had collected stamps and I remembered pouring over the book with him looking at all the different stamps from other countries.  Once I was old enough, he gave me his stamp collection book and I added to it as I came across interesting stamps from other countries.  So today's nails are based on my stamp collecting as a kid!

Started with a base of OPI My Vampire is Buff; two coats then topcoated (no pix).  Stamped using MoYou Tourist Collection-05 (thumb), MoYou Tourist Collection-09 (middle finger and date stamp on ring), DRK C (pinky and index), FUN 2 (letters on ring) and FUN 12 (mail on ring).  I purposely didn't use stamping polishes as I wanted a more muted look for the stamping to look vintage so used assortment of regular polishes; Essence Do You Speak Love? (red), Essence The Green and the Grunge (green), Zoya Dea (tan) and Leighton Denny Do Me a Favour (orange).

I thought this was a pretty cool image from DRK C; too bad it would never fit fully on a nail!

Top coated with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I thought matte look with look more vintage for these stamps so added coat of OPI matte.

I wanted to share a few pages of my stamp collection book to go along with this post as I still have it, but after hunting through boxes for a couple hours on the weekend, the hubs and I couldn't locate it (that's the problem with keeping things 37 years in a box someplace and moving 5+ times over the years!).  I know I have it someplace and am sure I will find it someday; obviously I don't collect now but it is interesting even now looking at all these old stamps!  In the meanwhile, we did come across the hubs stamp collection as he collected as a kid too so here's a few pix from his.

I was positive he had a stamp similar to the one on the thumb and I took a pix of it when we had his things out but I guess I was mistaken.  All is back away in storage so too late now lol!

Digit-al Dozen DOES it All Again; Music, Day 3

What do some people do to music.....(well, that's a loaded question now, isn't it?)...but I was thinking dance....even though this mani is probably more like dancing in the disco era and I'm not sure how many people are dancing to disco music nowadays.....anyway, this is what I came up with for the music challenge!

Started with a base of skittles, starting from the thumb and going clockwise the polishes are China Glaze Flyin' High, Sally Hansen Insta-dri Orange Impulse, China Glaze Happy Go Lucky, OPI  If You Moust You Moust, and Sally Hansen Insta-dri Lickety-Split Lime; all two coats, topped with SV.

Stamped using black Konad special polish using images from Lilic A06 (ring finger), MJ XVII (thumb), Big SdP W (pinky and middle), and FUN 2 (index).

Added peace symbols in assortment of sizes using Lilic A06 and QA 11, flowers from SdP 67 and love wording from Lilic A06.  The colourful stamping polishes used were Sally Hansen Insta-dri Lickety-Split Lime and Orange Impulse, FUN stamping polishes in Mango Shake, Bubble Blue and Cotton Candy.

Added random dots throughout using same colourful stamping polished mentioned in last paragraph.

Topped with SV to finish.

Big SdP W was a plate I had used for the first time here; here's a closer look at it.

Personally, I love disco era music.  The Bee Gees are one of my favourite all time groups and there's nothing better than driving to a cranked Jive Talkin' or Stayin' Alive in the car...although on their more recently released CD One Night Only (I have the DVD too!!)  (These albums were just coming out when I was a pre-teen so I have all the original albums too (and some of this era's music on 8-tracks some place in the attic or basement...makes me feel old now!)  I recently watched Saturday Night Fever on TV when it was on....love John Travolta's strut...which is unusual for me as I'm not a person to watch a movie more than once but I've watched it several times now!

Digit-al Dozen, Books; Day 4

Another mani based upon a book I finished not too long ago....can you guess which book this mani is based upon?

It's a book I've had for a while even thought I just finished reading it recently.  I also have the DVD that was based upon the book too, but haven't watched it yet.  I'm kinda funny when it comes to movies that have been based upon books in that I won't watch the movie until I've read the book.  This is for a couple reasons but mainly because I find the book more entertaining than the movie so I want to read the book first so I'm not privy to any spoilers by watching the movie first.  Another reason is there are so many times I've watched a movie and then read the book only to find so many liberties have been taken in the movie that I'm disappointed when I read the book because I'm expecting something else to happen...or maybe this means I'm disappointed in the movie.....if that makes sense!  Sometimes too I have great expectations in the movie as I loved the book and then, the movie is a let down.....looking at you, The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown...loved the book...the movie was just so so.  So if I know that a book has a movie based upon it, I generally always read the book first and then watch the movie/DVD.  So this means that I've never watched the Twilight movies (I have the books, just haven't read them yet), Harry Potter series (same...but I have to admit I've seen snippets of the movies here and there while my kids have watched the DVD's), I just finished Time Traveler's Wife last month and while I've had the DVD for ages, just haven't watched it...as I wanted to read the book first!!! lol (makes me sound nuts even typing this!).  In the case of the Time Traveler's Wife; I hope the movie is better than the book!

So....did you guess......

Started with a base of OPI Bride's Bouquet (two coats) and FingerPaints Black Expressionism (one coat); topped with SV.

Stamped using black and white Konad special polishes using Apipila 03 (ring and thumb) MJ II (pinky), FUN2 (index) and MJ VI (middle).

Topped with SV.

I plan on watching the DVD of The Help over the weekend now that I've finished the book...I hear its pretty good!

Earth Day Mani!

Yesterday's FB Adventures in Stamping challenge was Earth Day.  This is the mani I did for the challenge, which I thought I'd post today as it is Earth Day!

Started with a base of two coats of OPI Bride's Bouquet and Generation Baby Blue, topped with SV.

Stamped using assortment of plates; MJ III (recycle images on thumb using green Konad special polish), FUN 2 (world on thumb using blue Konad special polish), RA-115 (tree on index using green Konad and Kiko), W104 (middle image using blue, yellow and red Konad special polishes), SdP 75 (ring using blue Konad special polish) and CH33 (pinky, using Dashica green stamping polish).

Added a few images for filler; D15 (sun and clouds on  index), D16 (moon and stars on middle), T28 (butterfly on index and ring), SdP 74 (ladybug and bee on ring), W104 (butterflies on ring) all using assortment of Konad special polishes.  Also stamped in small flowers at bottom of tree on index using Mash-08.

Topped with SV.

Just to give you an idea of how many times this mani was stamped, there are nine individual stamps on the index finger, seven on the thumb, six on the index, and six on the middle.  The pinky was stamped once and if this is all added up, this mani was stamped a total of 29 times to create this look!

Digit-al Dozen, Geek Week; Day 2

Are you a fan of Big Bang Theory?  I have to say, I love the show!  A mani around BBT would be perfect for Geek Week...but there was a nerd theme a few weeks ago in AiS and I did a BBT mani already here; then I thought, hmmm...what about a mani in tribute to Sheldon Cooper, the biggest geek ever....so decided to do a mani featuring the t-shirts worn by Sheldon Cooper!  Here's what I came up with!

Base polishes, starting at thumb and going clockwise are FingerPaints Blissfully Blue, FingerPaints Inkblot Blue, FingerPaints Black Expressionism, Duri Taming of the Shrew and FingerPaints Blue Raspberry Taffy; all two coats, topped with SV.

Stamped using BM305 (ring finger), FUN2 (index), MJ VI (pinky), D25 (middle) and DRK-A (thumb), using red Konad special polish and FUN stamping polishes in Mango Shake, Bubble Blue and Cotton Candy.

Added a couple words for filler using CH47.

Topped with SV.

Here's pix of Sheldon in his t-shirts so this mani may make more sense...his t-shirts have their own little cult following!  I had to take some stamping liberties; for example, I could stamp the lime on the Batman image but purple didn't show up well, so just decided to do it yellow; and while I thought I had a massive Flash bolt like the t-shirt, I didn't and the multi bolts was the closest I could find.

Digit-al Dozen: Art, Day 2

Did I mention that I'm not too much into art?  For a little inspiration, I did some Googling and a few of the images that were found in the search results were related to Egyptian art, so I thought, why not?  Here's what I came up with.

Picture040-2

A lot of the Egyptian art that I seen is on a beige/sand coloured base but when I went looking through my stash, I decided I wanted to jazz it up a little, yet at least be in the beige/sand family (somewhat!), so started with a base of China Glaze It's My Turn; this is three coats, no topcoat.

Picture003-2

Added images using D23 (both images on thumb), H25 (top image on index) VL 006 (bottom line image on index), FUN 2 (ring), OMG Nails unnamed XL plate (pinky) and Blink H43 (middle) using black Konad special polish.

Picture012-2

When I was browsing Egyptian art pix, I noticed that occasionally there were bright turquoise and orange-ish accents so I chose these colours for a few accent dots; Color Blast by Orly Ablazing Aqua and Konad Gold/Brown special polish.

Picture013-2

Topped with SV to finish.

Picture042-2

I thought this turned out pretty cool!  I wished there were more Egyptian images available like King Tut's mask and a few others....but was happy that at least there were enough to squeak out a mani with some improvising and artistic liberties!

Back to School!

Today's the first day back to school for my kids and this was a mani I came up with for the occasion!

Base polishes, starting from thumb and going clockwise are, CND Anchor Blue (1 coat), Duri Taming of the Shrew (2 coats), CND Bicycle Yellow (2 coats), CND Electric Orange (1 coat) and CND Green Scene (1 coat).

Stamped!  Images used were Mash-46 (white lines on thumb), unnamed Essence plate (sneaker on middle finger), SE18 (apple on index), OB38 (pencil on pinky), FUN2 (hands on ring and words on middle finger) and Konad m17 and m18 (letters on thumb).  Stamping polishes used were Konad black special polish, FUN Mango Shake (yellow), FUN Avocado Green (hand, OMG! and LOL) and FUN Bubble Blue (hand and sneaker).

Added random dots using same base polishes.

Topped with SV.

I guess the scene on my nails should be one of a great big party now that the kids are back to school; however, while I'm glad they're back in school as its been a pretty hectic summer, it starts the grind again of making lunches and having to get up early to meet the bus at 8:10 am with my youngest son.  All summer long, I've been able to sleep in an hour longer while school was out!
