Rogue Lacquer Puns of Steel

press sample

I'm still sharing products from Indie Expo Canada 2018; slowly but surely I'm working my way through all the various posts; I do hope you are enjoying the event coverage!  It is a lot to get through!  Today I'm sharing this beautiful polish; Rogue Lacquer Puns of Steel.  Right up my alley; the flaky lover in me cannot get enough of all the flakies in all the colours!  The added bonus of holo makes me love it that much more!

If ever a base, stamping polish and image were meant to be, it is here!  Obviously my opinion but this is a tri-fecta here; beautiful base polish with lots of interest with the multicoloured flakies, the holo flash and that stunning base colour.  Matched perfectly with a stamping polish and then stamped with an image that goes with the base polish well, complimenting it perfectly by making for an interesting nail art image yet allows the beauty of the base polish to shine through.  You can't ask for more when doing nail art!

For this mani, started with a base of three coats of Rogue Lacquer, Puns of Steel, no topcoat.  This is a fairly sheer polish, one coat would be a beautiful topper and I did think about doing a mani with it on a light gray base.  While I went with it on its own, I'm sure it will show up in a future mani as a topper!  Two coats was good coverage but I'm not a fan of VNL so added a third coat for safe measure.  This also ensure good flaky and holographic coverage as well.

Rogue Lacquer Puns of steel is a light blue/gray base with blue, teal and magenta flakies and holographic shimmer.

While Rogue Lacquer is a relatively new brand launching earlier this year, the maker behind Rogue Lacquer, Rachel, is by no means new to the indie scene as she one part of the Ever After Polish duo and has now branched out on her own!

Stamped with Paint Polish Autumn Twilight 2.0 using an image from Kelly Negri KN7.  I don't think I need to restate my love of how perfectly this image and stamping polish go so well with Rogue Lacquer Puns of Steel!  Don't get me wrong; I know the base with go well with other stamping colours and images but this is what you hope for when stamping, at least I do when I'm stamping because let's be honest; they don't all turn out so great.

Digit-al Dozen Does Tropical; Day 2

This is my day 2 mani for Digit-al Dozen tropical challenge.  I have to admit, these are a little unusual for tropical nails but I was striving for something different/thinking outside of the box so these were done intentionally to be different.  And my best shadow stamping to date if I don't say so myself; I was really pleased how the shadow stamping turned out even though I had to do 3 fingers twice hahaha.  Anyway, hopefully you enjoy Day 2 of the tropical theme!  Here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of Fair Maiden Polish You Got It Dude! from May 2018 Polish Pick Up. The brights and flaky lover in me absolutely adores this polish and I was really happy to add it to my stash!

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

Did these tropical hibiscus nails with colours that I thought would compliment the base polish as I see light purple shimmer flash in the base.  First stamped the image using MdU 60, then double stamped using MdU 73 using an image from BM-318.  I didn't take pix of just the lilac polish as I double stamped each nail as I went versus doing all then them the one colour then the second stamping because these MdU polishes can be skin stainers and I didn't want to have any issue.  Plus because I did double stamping of all nails using different parts of the image, wanted to immediately double stamp so the placement was fresh in my mind. Ha...sign of old age that is lol (middle age anyway!)!

Digit-al Dozen Does Colour Contrasts; Day 1

It's Digit-al Dozen challenge week!  This months theme is colour contrasts; so colours that are opposite each other on the colour chart......or those that clash.....or compliment each other.....however we individually interpreted it!  Here's what I came up with for Day 1!

Started with a base of two coats of Pretty & Polished Fuzzy Sweater; shown with no top coat.

Topped with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Love the interesting green colour of it with colour shifting flakies!  I love the flakies; gives the polish an added interest to the base!  The Pretty & Polished site described is as an off beat mustard colour but I see more green than mustard which I think is a brighter yellow myself; although when I google swatches, I do see some pictures that lean yellow....but certainly not mustard yellow unless the mustard has gone bad!

Stamped using images from MoYou Festive Collection-06 with accent of BM-S216.  For some reason, I didn't take note of the stamping polish, but I do believe it was a MoYou one.

I actually like how these two colours go together, contrast/clash or not......and I think this is the perfect Fuzzy Sweater!  Even thought I'm not as fond of some other of the colour combinations I came up with this week.....!

Trick or Treat!

Trick or Treat!

Smell my feet!

Give me something good to eat!

The trick or treaters are out tonight; we are busy giving out candy and so far have seen a couple of princesses, Captain America, Super Girl, a pirate, a ghoul, a butterfly....and a whole bunch of costumes I just don't recognize!

Started with a base of flaky skittles; polishes starting at thumb and going clockwise are Pahlish Bespoke Mauna Loa, Pretty & Polished Fuzzy Sweater, Barry M Grey with a coat of Frenzy Dauntless, Great Lakes Lacquer The Last Sliver of Sun and Great Lakes Don't Forget the Whip.  All are two coats, no top coat, except the middle which is one coat of each.

Topped with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Made a few stamper decals.

Applied stamper decals using images from DXE04 (index, middle and pinky), DXE16 (thumb) and Infinity 146 (ring).  The added stamped pumpkin is from DXE01 using MdU 13, the words on the index are from SPH-001.

Love this image!

I had a few left over stamper decals so applied them to Ms. Cindy; images are from DXE04 (ring, middle and index), the thumb is from Messy Mansion MM22 and the very adorable ghost is from Chez Halloween 005.  The words on the pinky are from DXE23.

Witches!

The witches will be out in full force tonight so I thought it would be a good time to share this witch themed mani!

Started with a base of two coats of Pahlish Bespoke Mauna Loa.  This is the original release and while I missed it when it was first released, I was lucky enough to pick it up from a blog sale a few months ago.  If you are after this, I've seen it in blogs sales since then too so they are out there if you are wanting one. Pahlish Bespoke Mauna Loa is a pretty vibrant orange with gold shimmer and charcoal flakies; it dries somewhat matte as you can see.

Added a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

I had made a few stamper decals using images from Marianne Nails. n.115 for all shown except the hat, which is ZZ Halloween 1.  The standing witch was double stamped, first using the UC Luxe stamper to shrink, then on the stamper to paint.

I wish I had have shrunk a few more decals as the two middle ones didn't fit that well either on my small nails.  I liked the crows on the top so tried to preserve that portion of the decals but as you can see, they aren't that visible.

Marianne Nails. n.115

Top coated with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

If you have been around my blog for a while, you know I'm not much for vacant space and busy nails is my middle name so added a few bats from the same Marianne Nails n.115 for filler on the pinky and thumb; then top coated again with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.  I didn't do a very good job filling in the voids that well on the stamper decals; on the ring finger, was was able to do a little clean up but they are still messy.  I'm not sure if a smaller brush, a steadier hand or better eye sight will help in the future....or all three perhaps!

The trick or treaters will be out in a few hours (including making an appearance on this blog later tonight); so if you are out and about, be mindful of them on the roads!  Have a safe and fun Halloween!

Digit-al Dozen Does Vampy; Day 3

When my recent Pahlish order arrived, a trio of polishes looked like they might be a pretty cool base for Day 4 of the Digit-al Dozen Vampy challenge; here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of Pahlish Cinnamon Apples, no top coat.

(Disregard the fugly nails in these next couple of pictures!)  I tried to do a sponged gradient using Pahlish Cinnamon Apples, Pumpkin Patch and Hoodies, Leaves and S'Mores but the base colours weren't really picking up; just the glitter and flakies.  So I brush applied bands of polish width wise the same polishes on each nail.  Not pretty at all but had to do fairly thick coats to  get some colour over the base polish.

Applied KBShimmer Clearly on Top before stamping.

At this point, I didn't know what to think.  The colours didn't seem to go well and they looked way too thick to be useable.  I was just going to remove the blobs of polish and go with something different, but decided to just use what I had already done even though it looked like a fail at this point.  So added leaves using an image from Born Pretty BP-19 using CND Gold Chrome.

Born Pretty BP-19

I actually didn't mind this mani once it had stamping on it; kinda covered up all the polish fail lol!  So decided to keep it on my nails; topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

Different lighting but you can see the mani a little less vampy!

Here's the other ladies Day 3 vampy mani's!
