Digit-al Dozen Does Books; Day 1

It's Digit-al Dozen week!  Our theme this month is books!  The book lover in me loves the theme but try as I might, I had a hard time coming up with mani's related to books.  But the great thing about the group is that we can each do our own interpretation of the theme which really gives us some unique manis for the challenges!  Anyway, this is my day 1 mani for book week!

I had made the stamper decals for the mani in advance and wanted a colour that would go nicely with them.  Decided on brights; this is two coats of KBShimmer Lei It Again, no top coat.  I am loving this colour; what a nice pick me up!

Did a sponged gradient using the same KB and CND Raspberry Parfait.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.  Unfortunately, the gradient was lost in most of the stamping, but I love how this turned out and will keep it in mind for a future mani.

After a coat of sticky base, applied the stamper decals that I had made.  Used images from MJ JR-2 and MdU 3, 52 and 66.

Shadow stamped the thumb and the letters above the book on the pinky using image from Marianne Nails n.132.  All images on the index are from MJ JR-2 as are the I Heart on the ring finger.  Unfortunately, the books from the MJ JR-2 (as seen on the index) was far too large to fit and even with the smaller letters from Nailways Back to Basics ABC 123 which I ended up using, still didn't fit that well but I tried.  Hopefully you get it anyway!

Back to School Time!!!

Today is the first day of school for kids in my area!  I know, all parents are singing, "It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!!"  I can't believe that it's the last year of school for my youngest child! How time has flied! Only 10 more months of having to get up early and then I've done my parental duty of seeing all three kids off to school for the last 18 or so years! Wahooo!!!!   This is what I came up with for back to school nails!

Started with a base of skittles; polishes used starting at thumb and going clockwise are Nars Ethno Run Left, Nicole by OPI Hit the Lights, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, Zoya Tilda and Zoya Robyn.  All are two coats except the NOPI which was thin and streaky and needed a third for coverage and Zoya Tilda which was good for coverage but I nicked the tip and just filled it, then added another coat to level.

I had made a bunch of stamper decals using images from plates and acrylic paints.  

Applied stamper decals.  Images are from Moyra-16 Memories16 (thumb), MJ JR-2 (index), Creative Shop 12 (middle), Cheeky Top of the Class Jumbo 4 (ring) and FAB UR NAILS FUN-WON (pinky).

Decided to add a few more images; added words on middle from Infinity Nails 76, then added 'learn' from MJ XL II on ring and 'play' from FAB UR NAILS FUN-WON on ring.  Added a few dots on the dress on the pinky.

Decided to add a few dots for filler using same colours of base.

I hope your morning was uneventful if it was your kids first day back!  Ours went well; got up on time, no hiccups and the bus even picked up DS2 on time....last year, the bus forgot him the first day of school so we are already ahead of the game!

Digit-al Dozen Does Paper; Day 2

For Day 2 of the Digit-al Dozen paper challenge, I did books!  Here's what I came up with!

Started with one quick coat of Quo by Orly Nude.  It didn't have to be pretty or opaque as I knew I'd be sponging on top.

Sponged with assortment of neutral tones until I got a look I was content with.

I made a couple stamper decals from images from MJ JR 2; applied them on the ring and thumb, then stamped the rest of the images from the same plate. (I couldn't get the "I" to stamp so did it with a brush.)  I love that little bookworm!

I thought the mani might look better matte, so added a coat of OPI matte....but can't decide which version I like better!

I don't know about you, but I still prefer a paper version of a book versus a tablet....old school, I guess!
