Digit-al Dozen Does Birthday's; November 2016

It's time to celebrate the November birthday's in the Digit-al Dozen!  This month, Marisa, Carmina and Serene are celebrating so Happy Birthday ladies!  This is a drip marbling; it is the first time that I've ever tried this method and I do have to say that while it seemed intimidating at first, it was wayyy easier than real water marbling.  In fact, I may never do a traditional water marble again after this easy, peasy method!  This is what I came up with based on the inspiration photo which is below!

Inspirational photo!

The concept is you drip drops of polish onto a plastic lid kinda all together, then when you have all the colours added, you lift the lid and tilt it back and forth until the polishes collide and you get the desired effect you are going for.  Wait about an hour or so (I dried mine overnight), then peel the polish off the lid and apply them like a stamper decal.  So I picked 11 different polishes that I hoped were close to the colours in the inspiration photo. I lined them all up together for dripping the polish.

So this is what it looked like when I dripped the polishes; some are side by side, others are drop into drop into drop like water marbling.

After I tilted the wet polishes back and forth, it looked like this.

And here's the end result of five different lids!

I picked parts of the blobs to use for each nail hoping to get something close to the inspiration mani!  The blobs are applied like a stamper decal, so you put a coat of clean directly on the nail, when the clear is tacky, apply it to the nail. Some nails, I was pretty good for size and didn't have much cleanup; for others, I used the tool with the sharp edge to cut away the polish design from the nail.

After cleanup, applied a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on top to finish.

Picture Polish Mossy

Hope you are having a great week; sorry to have not posted all week but I had a busy week and then started a massive blog sale so most of my time has been devoted to it!

Here's a mani I did a few weeks ago and absolutely love using piCture pOlish Mossy!

Started with a base of two coats of piCture pOlish Mossy.  Man, I adore these piCture pOlishes that have this holographic flaky effect...such a nice added extra as the base yet they still come off as easy as a creme!

Topped with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

I've been trying to remember to stamp with a colour other than black or white so picked this mustard yellow looking stamping polish; MdU 46.  The image is from NailMatinee 07 and I used the clear stamper head from Girly Bits (and still messed up a finger!).  Added a couple dots using dotter for contrast interest.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

Thanks for looking; enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Digit-al Dozen Does Colour Contrasts; Day 5

This is the final mani for the Digit-al Dozen contrast week and my favourite of the bunch; this is using red and green which are true contrasting colours!  I didn't want to do Christmas nails....too early even for this theme loving gal, so came up with strawberries!

Started with a base of two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and OPI I STOP for OPI, which is 3 as it is jelly and squishy and I wanted to have full coverage.

Make some stamper decals using images from UberChic 9-01 using OPI I STOP for OPI, Mdu 48 and FunkyFingers Dark Knight.

Applied the stamper decals.

Stamped the thumb using an image from UberChic UC3-03 using FunkyFingers Dark Knight and MdU 48, then top coated everything off with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

I wasn't liking that some of my decal wasn't sitting down that flat on the middle so decided to add a few dots for interest/coverage/filler, then topped one last time using KBShimmer Clearly on Top.  (I also did some brush touch ups here and there where needed like some of the strawberry seeds were missing on the middle image, touched up one on the thumb.)

So that's it for another week; hopefully you had a chance to check out every one's colour contrasting mani's which were fabulous as always!

Digit-al Dozen Does Colour Contrasts; Day 4

For day 4 of the Digit-al Dozen colour contrast challenge, I did something a little unusual!  Well, the nails turned out usual, just the thinking behind the challenge might be a little unusual! During my google searching for definition of colour contrasts, it was discovered that the same shade in large and dark form is a contrast! So decided to go that route; a light and dark contrast of same/similar colour...if I really wanted to stretch it, I could also say holo and creme are contrasts...here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of ILNP Music Box, no top coat.

Added a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped using an image from UberChic 9-02 using MdU 79.

The thumb had perfect placement; the rest; not so much lol!

Digit-al Dozen Does Colour Contrasts; Day 3

For Day 3 of the colour contrast challenge, I decided on purple and yellow.  I sooo resisted this colour combination because it is seriously one of my least favourite colour combos...and it always reminded me of high school and the the terrible, terrible school gym clothes we had to wear as these were our school colours....a bright yellow, Big Bird t-shirt and ill fitting, uni-sex purple shorts.  Not pretty, that's for sure!

But, believe it or not, what you are actually seeing is purple and yellow polish for Day 3 of colour contrast; but when you mix purple and yellow you get some shades leaning brown which this mani has hints of lol! That would be called a water marble fail but hey, I tried!

Just to prove I really was using yellow and purple polishes, I took a pix of my water marble.  But even here, you can see where the purple runs to brown/rust like hues.

For the water marble, I used Pipe Dream Polish Harlequin, Punch Buggy and Prism Drops.  I was not very successful in my attempt though.

Not one to back down though in the face of a fail, I continued on so topped everything off with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped using an image from Apipila Super Placa A using Funky Fingers Dark Knight.

Topped it off with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I actually thought the end result turned OK; stamping always makes the mani better!  There are some hits of a success here in the pinky and thumb but room for improvement, that's for sure!  Someday...hopefully!

Digit-al Dozen Does Colour Contrasts; Day 2

There aren't too many mani's I do that I just don't care for but unfortunately, this happens to be one of them. I think the problem is the accent nail; just not happy with how it doesn't match the other nails that well (like the shades of orange are off; the glitter isn't that bad).  It wasn't as noticeable IRL thankfully but just was disappointed in myself for not picking better matching colours!  Anyway, here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of Kiara Sky Take Me To Paradise; which is three coats.  Accent is Misslyn Head Over Heels, two coats.

Added a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped with an image from Kelly Negri KN 8 using MdU 53.

Decided to add Formula X for Sephora TNT on accent for interest, then topped it with top coat as well.

Digit-al Dozen Does Colour Contrasts; Day 1

It's Digit-al Dozen challenge week!  This months theme is colour contrasts; so colours that are opposite each other on the colour chart......or those that clash.....or compliment each other.....however we individually interpreted it!  Here's what I came up with for Day 1!

Started with a base of two coats of Pretty & Polished Fuzzy Sweater; shown with no top coat.

Topped with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Love the interesting green colour of it with colour shifting flakies!  I love the flakies; gives the polish an added interest to the base!  The Pretty & Polished site described is as an off beat mustard colour but I see more green than mustard which I think is a brighter yellow myself; although when I google swatches, I do see some pictures that lean yellow....but certainly not mustard yellow unless the mustard has gone bad!

Stamped using images from MoYou Festive Collection-06 with accent of BM-S216.  For some reason, I didn't take note of the stamping polish, but I do believe it was a MoYou one.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I actually like how these two colours go together, contrast/clash or not......and I think this is the perfect Fuzzy Sweater!  Even thought I'm not as fond of some other of the colour combinations I came up with this week.....!

Here's the other ladies Day 1 manis!
