Valentine Hearts!

I have a few Valentine's Day manis to share before the day of love arrives!  As in the past, I try to do some untypical holiday mani's to shake things up a bit!  This is one that, believe it or not, started by me observing an army green car on my way to work and I decided right there that army green nails were going on that night! That turned into a Valentine's Day mani with some unusual colours; here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of Butter London British Khaki (creme on ring and index), Painted Polish Lotus Love (middle) and Different Dimension Mystery Prototype 90 (thumb and pinky).

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped using images from Kelli Negri KN12 (thumb) and Bunny Nails HD-B on the rest of the nails using FunkyFingers Dark Knight.

Added random little hearts using image from UberChic Love & Marriage 02 using MdU 46; also added a couple more rows of hearts on the pinky and middle using same image from HD-B and MdU 46 and FunkyFingers Dark Knight.  Also stamped same image from KN 12 using MdU 46 but just added the heart in the middle on the thumb.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I love how this turned out; I also love how you can take some not so typical Valentine's Day colours and turn it into a Valentine's Day mani!

Hope you're having a great weekend; thanks for looking!

Rogue Lacquer Puns of Steel

press sample

I'm still sharing products from Indie Expo Canada 2018; slowly but surely I'm working my way through all the various posts; I do hope you are enjoying the event coverage!  It is a lot to get through!  Today I'm sharing this beautiful polish; Rogue Lacquer Puns of Steel.  Right up my alley; the flaky lover in me cannot get enough of all the flakies in all the colours!  The added bonus of holo makes me love it that much more!

If ever a base, stamping polish and image were meant to be, it is here!  Obviously my opinion but this is a tri-fecta here; beautiful base polish with lots of interest with the multicoloured flakies, the holo flash and that stunning base colour.  Matched perfectly with a stamping polish and then stamped with an image that goes with the base polish well, complimenting it perfectly by making for an interesting nail art image yet allows the beauty of the base polish to shine through.  You can't ask for more when doing nail art!

For this mani, started with a base of three coats of Rogue Lacquer, Puns of Steel, no topcoat.  This is a fairly sheer polish, one coat would be a beautiful topper and I did think about doing a mani with it on a light gray base.  While I went with it on its own, I'm sure it will show up in a future mani as a topper!  Two coats was good coverage but I'm not a fan of VNL so added a third coat for safe measure.  This also ensure good flaky and holographic coverage as well.

Rogue Lacquer Puns of steel is a light blue/gray base with blue, teal and magenta flakies and holographic shimmer.

While Rogue Lacquer is a relatively new brand launching earlier this year, the maker behind Rogue Lacquer, Rachel, is by no means new to the indie scene as she one part of the Ever After Polish duo and has now branched out on her own!

Stamped with Paint Polish Autumn Twilight 2.0 using an image from Kelly Negri KN7.  I don't think I need to restate my love of how perfectly this image and stamping polish go so well with Rogue Lacquer Puns of Steel!  Don't get me wrong; I know the base with go well with other stamping colours and images but this is what you hope for when stamping, at least I do when I'm stamping because let's be honest; they don't all turn out so great.

Digit-al Dozen Does Tropical; Day 5

It's the last day of the tropical challenge and no hibiscus nails!  I thought that starfish would be tropical enough for the theme and I think these colours are tropical looking too so this is what I'm using!  It's too bad that I couldn't use the lizard, palm tree, tropical fish and birds plates that I thought I was going to use but there are always other days and don't really need the challenge to do them!  Here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of two coats of Orly Push the Limit with accent of two coats of Painted Polish Card Tricks & Carousels, no top coat.

Topped with a thin coat of Indigo Bananas Fiery The Angels Fell.  I thought both went well with the glitter in the Painted Polish but the Indigo Bananas is a little thicker than I wanted as I had to touch up to cover bare spots and then there was a bald spot in another spot, so had to add a bit more and so on and so on and before you know it, it was heavier than I wanted lol.

Stamped using Wistonia Absolutely Nautical (thumb), B. Loves Plates B. 11 Summer (index), Creative Shop 85 (middle), Nailways Vive La Vie-Beach Baby (ring) and Sugar Bubbles SB051 (pinky) using FunkyFingers Gesso.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

Here's  the other ladies Day 5 mani's!

Hopefully you have enjoyed all the tropical nails that the Digit-al Dozen have shared this week.  Thanks for looking!

Shark Week!

It's Shark Week on Discovery this week and while I have meant to do a themed mani for years now, I never got around to it.  But when I sat down to do my nails a couple nights ago, I thought tonight is the night; I'm doing it (well, that was after I spent the night before looking through all the plates to find theme appropriate plates and images...that probably took longer than to do these nails!).  Here's what I came up with!

Started with a sponged gradient using Zoya Blu, China Glaze Bahamian Escape, LA Girl Disco Brites Funkadelic and LA Girl Disco Brites Dance Studio.  I think this is one of the first times that I was able to do a quad gradient and you can actually see all the colours in the gradient.  Yay me!  Even on my shorties!  As a side note, the LA Girl Disco Brites worked really well for the gradient and what was good about them is that they are highly pigmented but thin so worked well for the gradient and the cleanup was easy and clean with no dark blue ring at the cuticle, if you know what I mean.  Even though I did use latex barrier, rightttt up against the cuticle still usually has polish and it removed easy peasy on the thumb as it was thin.  I hope I remember this for future gradients!

It might not look like it, but this mani was a lot of work! I made a stamper decal for the index finger with the the top half of an image from Creative 51 after shrinking image using a really squishy stamper head.  I did try to double stamp it onto another stamper to correct the way it places like the stamping plate but that was a no go. Applied it to index, then stamped the lower portion of the nail with the wave image from Creative Shop 28 using MdU 3.  Middle image is from Creative Shop 85 again using MdU 3.  Stamped thumb using Painted Polish Stamped in Clay but it was too faint, so stamped on top (not quite a mirror image but I'll call it that anyway; it wasn't intention, just necessity to see it!) using an image from Creative Shop 02 and MdU 2.  On ring, stamped image from Cheeky CH38 using Painted Polish Stamped in Clay, then mirror stamped using same image using MdU 2.  Lastly, on pinky, stamped waves from Creative Shop 28 using MdU 3, then singled out an image from BFF 17 using Painted Polish Stamped in Clay, then mirror stamped using MdU 2.  For added interest, stamped birds twice on pinky using Painted Polish Stamped in Stone using image from Infinity 58.  I'm sorry I didn't do my step by step pictures as I usually do but hopefully you can appreciate that this mani took a long time do do as well as plan out, pick out stamping colours, etc. and it was 1:30 amish when I finished so it was late and I just wanted to get it done so picture taking took a back seat, sorry.  Oh, and I also spent some time setting up new lighting and then I tried 3 different lighting areas each time I did take pictures so that took some time too, in my attempt to get better images and less lobstery looking hands!  I swear, my hands do not seem this red in real life lol!

BFF 17

Creative Shop 85.  There's also another shark image on this plate but it was too cartoonish for the look I was going for but maybe another time, I'll use it.

Creative Shop 51

Bundle Monster BM-503 (even though I didn't end up using it, it might be used for reference if someone is looking for shark images).

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I haven't watched Shark Week every night this week but have seen some of the shows; notwithstanding this, I do have a great interest in general of shows involving sharks (and whales, orcas and marine life in general) and have watched my fair share of shows in the past.  One thing is for sure; I certainly do hope I never encounter one in the wild!

Thanks for looking...and enjoy the rest of Shark Week!

Digit-al Dozen Does White; Day 4

Another archived mani, this is another one that I didn't share because the purples didn't match close enough. But if you can look past that, it isn't too bad of a mani, I suppose.  Hey, they can't all be stunners!  Anyway, I'm sharing now; this is my day 4 mani for Digit-al Dozen white challenge.

Started with a base of two coats of Zoya Mira, Painted Polish From Booklyn With Love, and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Wall, no top coat.

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Stamped with Moyra 104 My Little Universe using FunkyFingers Gesso and EdK Tuco.

Added a couple studs for interest.

Welcome Spring!

It's 12:15 p.m. and spring has officially arrived!  While it's far too cold here for any flowers to be blooming yet, hopefully they will be here once it gets a little warmer!  According to the forecast, it won't be warm for about three more weeks.  In the meanwhile, floral nails will have to do!  Here's what I came up with!

Started with a base of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  Then dry brushed with an assortment of polishes: KBShimmer In Yacht Water, KBShimmer Bahama Drama, KBShimmer Hugs and Wishes, KBShimmer Little Boy Hue, Nicole by OPI Hit The Lights, The Kit Smoothie Delight and Painted Polish Stamped in Greenery.

Stamped using an image from Marianne Nails Professional n18 using FunkyFingers Dark Knight.  I have no idea what happened to the middle finger; all I can think of is I forgot to remove the stamped image from the stamp before. Duh! I don't know what I was thinking lol!  I tried to do the brush stroking where I thought the flower would be stamped but that didn't work out all the well on all the fingers.  Maybe just the thumb lol.

Ms. Cindy didn't turn out too badly either; in fact, in some ways, I like it better, especially the thumb!

Topped with KBShimmer Clearly on Top to finish.

I thought the mani would look cool if it was matted, so after dotting flower centers to change it up a bit, added a coat of OPI matte.

I don't know about you, but I am glad spring is officially here!  I just hope it truly is the end of winter; no more snow!  I guess we'll see!
